Mylor Book Stall

As much as I love a trip to Waterstones and a new book, I am always eager to discover a second-hand read. There is a thrill in finding a novel which has had a previous life, been enjoyed and loved by another. Furthermore, it is much better for the economy if we recycle our books after we have read them as there are so many works of literature being released every year and plenty that already exist- it only seems only that we give the older books a chance to survive a little longer. Plus, when you own as many books as I am fortunate to, it becomes necessary to have a clear out every now and then! For this reason, I adore my local book stall, found hidden amongst the flowers of a wall in Mylor and often plentiful with goodies, whether books or trinkets to take home.

I always try to swap a book in return for any that I take from the stall. On this visit, I brought along some books that I had remaining from my studies of English Literature over the years- 'Medieval English Literature and Culture', 'Reading Middle English Literature' and 'The White Devil' by John Webster. I knew that I wasn't likely to read these again and so I thought I would make room for some other books, especially with Christmas around the corner. Hopefully they will grab the attention of somebody who wants to learn more about these topics or desires to discover the wonder of Webster's writing.

The book stall is very well looked after. The owners constantly tidy the shelves and also rotate the books so that they do not remain there for too long. This means that with every visit there are new discoveries. I love organisation myself so I couldn't help but rearrange the shelves now that they included my additions.

Now for the fun part- choosing something to take home! On this occasion, I didn't find anything that I wanted but I think I was being particularly picky as I know that I have asked for some new books for Christmas. There is always next time!

Mylor itself is one of my favourite places in Cornwall to visit for a walk. The book stall is situated right next to a creek and lies in beautifully interesting surroundings. I love to watch the changing tides and the birds upon the water. On this day, the tide was right out, leaving a muddy residue, the boats resting in wait for the water's return.

A lovely place to escape to for a little while.

My Mum and I come here together often. We are very lucky to have somewhere like this so close.

Until next time!
